Inspirations for International Peace Day

Still I have deep faith in humanity and I know peace is possible. The first peace, which is the most important, is that which comes from the souls of people. Peace cannot be kept by force. It can only be achieved by understanding. Peace is a long journey every one of us must take steps to achieve that. We are made of different colors and we have different cultures. We are all different! We need to learn to accept and love differences in the world.

International Day of Peace is observed on September 21st each year. On this day, the UN urges all hostilities to stop and embrace every one with love. Sometimes unofficially this day is called as World Peace Day. The day was established in 1981 by the United Nations General Assembly and in 2001, the General Assembly voted to designate the day as a period of non-violence and ceasefire.

To mark the day, here is 16 famous quotes with images about peace.

Purpose Of Life: Living A Meaningful Life

Here I tried to gather top eight views of the ancient and modern thinkers about the purpose of life. I explored the purpose of life from different point of views.  What is the purpose of life? Why are we here?  There is short term purpose as well as long term purpose of life. Our purpose does not at all have to be something great or something BIG. My career and vocation is directly tied to my purpose, though the way we make our living does not necessarily have to have anything to do with why you are here.  The value of our impact on others and on the world has nothing to do with its scale.

Aristotle argues that everything has a purpose or goal, and that the purpose is always to attain some good. In Book Ethics, he considers perhaps the most vexing question that humanity confronts: What is the purpose of life? Finding and clarifying the life purpose and core life intentions can help us to move with greater focus and clarity every day of your life.  Aristotle argued that as we mature, we act less aimlessly and more purposefully. We try to develop a plan for living that unites all our various purposes. Without a plan for living, we do not know what we are trying to do or why.

aristotle31“Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence” – Aristotle

DL1“Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can’t help them, at least don’t hurt them.” – Dalai Lama

Amit Ray“It does not matter how long you are spending on the earth, how much money you have gathered or how much attention you have received. It is the amount of positive vibration you have radiated in life that matters,” – Amit Ray

ALE“All religions, arts and sciences are branches of the same tree. All these aspirations are directed toward ennobling man’s life, lifting it from the sphere of mere physical existence and leading the individual towards freedom.” – Albert Einstein

rkennedy“The purpose of life is to contribute in some way to making things better.” – Robert F. Kennedy

ER1“The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.” – Eleanor Roosevelt

Gandhi“The main purpose of life is to live rightly, think rightly, act rightly. The soul must languish when we give all our thought to the body.” – Mahatma Gandhi

Plato and Aristotle in The School of Athens fresco, by Raphael. Plato is pointing heavenwards to the sky, and Aristotle is gesturing to the world. Plato and Aristotle in The School of Athens fresco, by Raphael. Plato is pointing heavenwards to the sky, and Aristotle is gesturing to the world.

In Platonism, the meaning of life is in attaining the highest form of knowledge, which is the Idea of the Good, from which all good and just things derive utility and value.

Give yourself time to explore the purpose of life and notice what touches and inspires you most deeply. Write down any answers or thoughts that come to you as you ponder these questions.
